Larry Thane Shacklette, 58, of Louisville, formerly of Brandenburg, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at his home. His family was at his side.

Born Dec. 26, 1952, in Louisville, Larry was the father of Alicia and Angela Shacklette, son of Patch and Kathryn Shacklette, brother of Marie Rexroat (Jerry) and Gail Shacklette DeMaria (John) and brother-in-law of John Wolpert. His uncle, Donald Lamkin, and special cousins, Beth Lamkin, Dan and Steve Geoghegan, Jeff and Tami Lamkin, and nieces, Tracy Darnell and Renee Janocik, also survive him.

His beloved wife, Penny Miller Shacklette, his devoted sister Patricia Shacklette Wolpert, and loving grandparents, aunts and uncles preceded Larry in death.

After graduating from Meade County High School and earning a degree from Western Kentucky University, Larry followed a 32-year career in the health industry with Humana, now University of Louisville Hospital.

For the last three years, Larry had raised his two daughters, Alicia and Angela, after the death of his beloved wife, Penny, in 2008. Everyone who knew him well knows he was totally devoted to them, and they to him.

Larry was also so attentive to his dear sister, Patricia, through her battle with cancer. He visited her daily when she was in University of Louisville Hospital. Larry’s friends and co-workers stopped by often and shared funny stories about Larry throughout his years at the hospital. The family got to know yet another side of Larry, and were thankful he had such a special group of co-workers at the hospital.

His sudden passing from liver cancer shocked the family and friends of Larry. They will miss his smiling face and will always love him.

A memorial service was Saturday, Nov. 26, at Brandenburg United Methodist Church, http://bburgumc.org/contact.asp. It was followed by coffee and dessert in Larry’s honor in the family life center.
